Work Groups

In ReSource 3 thematic work groups were set up clustering the project activities along the following major categories of post-mining development: natural resources, cultural potentials, integrative utilization approaches.

Natural potentials

The work group Natural potentials focuses on biological and geological assets hidden in spatial and technical remains like mining dumps, cavities, etc.

The work group engages in depth with following 2 themes:
• sub-work group "Biomass" - options of biomass cultivation on former mining land
• sub-work group "Geothermal energy" - opportunities of geothermal use of minewater

Cultural potentials

The work group Cultural potentials deals with the heritage coming from mining traditions. On the one hand, strategies for utilization as well as change of mentality are developed. On the other hand, tourist potential of leftover infrastructure like mining railways, buildings, etc is investigated.

The work group focuses on following 2 themes:
• sub-work group "Cultural heritage" - strategy development and public events
• sub-work group "Tourist routes" - preparation of tourist routes of mining attractions

Integrative approaches

The work group Integrative approaches crosses sectoral borders and checks out how different potentials of one site can be used along with each other. For that purpose, specific methods are tested: Masterplans are elaborated and competitions for urban conversion run.
