Vision and History

The vision of M·I·N·E·C is to create a Central and Eastern European post-mining community and to keep gained knowledge available - beyond funding periods and partnership limits of single projects. The network´s main objectives are: ...

(1) ... exchange of experience between post-mining cities and regions. The idea is to save resources by avoiding "re-inventing the wheel". Typical themes of exchange are utilization of physical and cultural mining legacies but also local/regional post-mining development strategies, incl. building up of inter-communal associations.

(2) ... cross-border cooperation projects on post-mining urban and regional development.

(3) ... lobbying for joint interests of former mining areas.

M·I·N·E·C is set up as an internet-based, open, non-hierarchic platform. It is borne by its members and serves as umbrella for previous and running projects and networks. The web address of the network is www.minec.org. The network´s organisational level is kept low for making a passing-on from project to project possible.

M·I·N·E·C started in 2004 as an initiative of the EU project READY (2003-2007). In 2006 a network concept was created and a founding declaration adopted.
Currently, www.minec.org is hosted by the web presence of the EU project ReSource (2009-2012): www.resource-ce.eu.

This project is implemented through the CENTRAL EUROPE Programme co-financed by the ERDF.
