M·I·N·E·C is a network of mining cities and regions of Central and Eastern Europe founded in 2004. M·I·N·E·C serves as a communication platform for municipalities entering the post-mining era. The idea is to exchange solutions and strategies how to cope with the comprehensive local or regional crisis caused by the end of mining activities. This transfer of knowledge is mainly organised by joint projects of the network partners. The communication takes place in German and English.
Who is M·I·N·E·C?
Currently, there are ca. 80 members from 10 European countries registered. These are mostly municipalities, but also reclamation companies, planners, scientific institutions, NGOs - all strongly connected to the post-mining topic.
M·I·N·E·C works closely together with other European initiatives, e. g. European Association of Coal-mining Communities EURACOM as well as the Post-Mining Alliance. It is also well-linked to thematically related projects.
M·I·N·E·C is currently run and administered by the Economic Region Chemnitz-Zwickau, represented by the county of Zwickau (Germany).
